Image The WIA Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Technical Forum will be held over the weekend of 18th, 19th and 20th May 2018 at SeaWorld on the Gold Coast.

This year's event is being organised by the Gold Coast Amateur Radio Society (GCARS) with most of the weekends activities taking place at the Sea World Resort. Accommodation is available at the Sea World resort as well as a number of hotels, caravan parks and venues within close proximity. As has become the tradition, there will be a Friday night dinner this will lead into a full day on Saturday with a field day on the Sunday and many unique tours. The weekend program is detailed below.

    Image See the telecommunications devices of yesteryear in action at the Queensland Telecommunications Museum. Established in 1952 this museum represents a collection of historical telecommunications devices, teleprinters, exchanges, many of which are in full working order. Participants will be taken by coach from to Brisbane (Clayfield) and returned to the field on Sunday for a late lunch. www.telemuseum.org

    ImageFor those arriving at the Gold Coast on Friday evening the dinner and get together is being held at Fisherman's Wharf Tavern which is located at 60-70 SeaWorld Dr, Main Beach. Occupying one of the best locations in the region, you can enjoy the best of both worlds, the look is new but the traditions remain. Take time out to dine on the deck overlooking the beautiful Gold Coast Broadwater.     ImageOn Saturday morning the 19th May 2018 the Wireless Institute of Australia will conduct its national Annual General Meeting of members. This year’s AGM will be held at the Sea World Convention Centre, commencing at 9:00am.

    The WIA AGM is open for all to attend, however, only those who are members are able to vote, and seating will be given preferentially to WIA members.

    The AGM will be followed by the presentation of awards, after which the Open Forum will commence with reports presented on all WIA activities over the year and the opportunity to raise any issue desired. Morning tea and coffee will be served to those with a delegate package at 10:30am

    Image Saturday Evening Annual Dinner On Saturday evening the WIA will host it's Annual Dinner at SeaWorld Resort. Catering for a huge local and international following, Shoreline Restaurant at SeaWorld’s buffet offerings are large and diverse. The evening will be a great social occasion as well as providing an opportunity for a few words from some key people.

    The buffet will consist of seafood and Australian BBQ favorites.

    Image For those who would like an alternate perspective of South East Queensland enjoy a champagne breakfast and a hot air balloon flight through the Gold Coast Hinterland - perhaps take a radio to a great height! Participants will be collected from the Sea World Resort at around 4:00am in the morning and be transported in an air conditioned coach to the Hot Air Balloon launch site. Here you will be able to watch whilst the baloon inflation takes place and board for your ride. After returing to ground you will be transported by coach to O'Reilly's Grand Homestead & Boutique Vineyard for Champagne and a freshly cooked breakfast with pastries, fresh juices, eggs & bacon, cereals & fruit. Relaxing in the serenity of the historic vineyard. Departing at around 9:45 the air conditioned coach will return you to Seaworld by 10:30am
