Held over the weekend of 24th till 26th May 2019.

Note: Sydney Vivid will begin during the weekend.

The event comprises

  • Friday evening welcome. This night will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Waverley Amateur Radio Society, with speaker David Dufty, author of Secret Code Breakers, and showcasing various historical presentations regarding early Amateur Radio icons in Sydney.
  • Annual General Meeting and Open Forum
  • Technical sessions
  • Annual Conference Dinner, the after dinner speaker will be Professor Fred Watson, the astronomer in charge at The Anglo Australian Observatory, Siding Spring.
  • ARNSW Field Day at Dural

    A welcome to the WIA 2019 conference and AGM Weekend. To be held in the Sydney Town Hall Marconi Room. In addition to the conference opening this will also be an opportunity to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of WARS. Our guest speaker will be David Dufty the author of the terrific book “The Secret Code Breakers of Central Bureau”. Only recently have the extraordinary efforts of Australians the Pacific theatre come to light. They worked tirelessly on the Japanese cyphers and pioneered high volume traffic analysis.     The event will begin at 6PM and will include

    Bondi Beach

    A bus trip to Bondi Beach, the Eastern Suburbs and Manly.

    • 09:00 Bus Pick up at PARKROYAL Hotel, Darling Harbour (150 Day St, Sydney). Drive via Paddington to the famous Bondi Beach.

    • 10:00 For the more adventurous, drop off at Tamarama Beach for a 20-30 min walk to meet up at Bondi Beach.

    • 11:00 Next to a photo opportunity view of Sydney Harbour from Dudley Page Reserve.

    • 11:30 Time for morning tea at Tea Gardens, Watsons Bay (own expense).

    • 12:00 Back on the bus to Manly Beach via the eclectic Red-Light District of Kings Cross.

    • 13:00 At Manly walk along the Corso for lunch (own expense) at one of the many restaurants, cafes and take-away shops

    • 14:30 Head for the Ferry back to Circular Quay (adjacent to the Opera House and Botanic Gardens) where there are several options for getting back to wherever you want to go either walking (about 40-50 mins back to Park Royal), bus, taxi, etc.

    Note; if you are an interstate senior you will need to apply for an Opal Card to get the $2.50 all day concession on the ferry and for any other public transport travel during your stay in Sydney.     A bus trip to the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney to see many of the sites, and have morning tea and Lunch as well as a brief shopping visit to Leura.

    • 08:00 Pick up from Hotel
    • 08:15 Leave for day tour to Blue Mountains travelling via M2,M7 and Bells Line Road
    • 10:00 Arrive at The Kurrajong Radio Museum for morning tea – own expense
    • 10:30 Leave The Kurrajong Radio Museum to head to Mount Tomah Botanic Gardens
    • 10:50 Arrive at the Gardens and wander through gardens until lunch time
    • 12:00 Lunch at The Potager – cost included in tour cost
    • 13:00 Leave
    • 13:45 Katoomba and Three Sisters photo opportunity
    • 14:00 Back on bus for short drive
    • 14:10 Shop browsing at Leura
    • 15:00 Back to the bus for drive back to the Hotel

    This event runs concurrently with the ARNSW Field Day but Seperate from it, at a different location. You can do this OR the ARNSW Field Day, but not both. The fee is to cover the bus to and from the Park Royal in Darling Harbour. This is seperate from the museum entrance fee.
